Summer Simple Pleasures

Last night, after a long season of parenting and teen struggle, there was a moment where everything really did seem okay.

I ran around all day: dropping off at swim practice, doing some charity hours at a food bank with my son, dropping him off on a date that wasn't really a date according to him, and then to the grocery store for dinner things.

My daughter was at a sleep over close by and my son was at the gym.  He now bikes to the gym with adult regularity. He even wore his helmet.

Summer heat hasn't yet arrived and there was a gentle breeze piping through the open window.  Sheets of sunlight slanted against the carpet. Holly my dog lay close by.

I sat on the couch reading a beautiful New Yorker essay in my cooking apron that used to be my grandmother's.  Feet up. Dinner prepped and rice percolating on the stove.

The beauty of making it through a rough season is that ordinary joys are that much more special. What a joy to feel okay and humming along.
